Tracy Hall, FAIC Distinguished Professor Brigham Young University Provo, Utah 84601 Dear Dr. Hall: On Saturday March 19, 1977, The American Institute of Chemists will give its distinguished Chemical Pioneer Award to four new Pioneers: Dr. Johan Bjorksten Dr. John Kollar Dr. Henry McGrath Dr. Donald Othmer We are making every effort to have as many Student Awardees of the AIC present not only for the morning-long presentations, but also for the Awards Luncheon. We are planning to give these outstanding students as much time as possible to spend not only with the 1977 Chemical Pioneers, but also with past Chemical Pioneers who may be on hand. We hope the occasion will be a most inspiring one (as have all past Chemical Pioneer Award Ceremonies have been) especially for the young students. A Chemical Pioneer (past or present) will be seated at each table during the luncheon. To this end, I have taken the initiative to sponsor one $10.50 luncheon ticket in behalf of a student awardee for the luncheon, and have so advised our new Executive Director at our National Office, David A. H. Roethel. Mr. Roethel is serving as the National Chairman for the Annual Meeting at my request. It occurs to me that other past Chemical Pioneers also might wish to sponsor a student awardee*s luncheon for Saturday March 19, 1977 in New Orleans. If this proposal interests you, might I suggest that you send a check for $10.50 to our National Office made out to The American Institute of Chemists? Our National Office will purchase a ticket with this money and present it to an appropriate awardee in advance of the luncheon with an appropriate notation that the complimentary ticket is provided with your congratulations and best wishes. This is a new idea to help increase more outstanding student-chemists to participate in one of the most significant activities of The American Institute of Chemists. I do hope the suggestion receives a favorable response from you. Page 2 And if you can come to the Annual Meeting in New Orleans March 18-20, 1977, I personally will want to see you so that we can prepare an advance seating arrangement and arrange for small groups of students to talk with you.
